Executive Council: Officers
The Executive Council consists of elected SGA officers and cabinet members appointed by the President. The Executive Council is responsible for the day to day operations of
the SGA, record keeping, finances, and the presentation of items of business for General Assembly action.
President:
Stephanie Klein
The SGA President's job is one of organization and leadership. It is your responsibility to see that the organization not only meets the goals it has set for the present year, but to involve others in setting and meeting goals of future years. As President, you must realize that it is impossible to assume the responsibility of doing everything yourself. The ability to delegate without being bossy is important. As an ex-officio member of all college committees, you can help them with their problems. The President has the responsibility of keeping the organization running smoothly. At times during the year, you will need to appoint various positions. As a rule, this should be done during General Assembly meetings with prior planning by the Executive Council. Encourage greater membership participation in activities by appointing people with strong work ethic. You will need to work with the Executive Council in planning meetings of the General Assembly. As President, you will preside over such meetings, direct the discussion and see that all plans for meetings are made and specific topics are announced several days prior to the meeting.
Vice-President:
Beth Samek
As Vice-President of the Student Government Association, your responsibilities are to assist the President whenever needed. Be ready to take over for him/her when necessary. You are to provide assistance when needed and are responsible for seeing that all elections are functioning properly. You should review parliamentary procedure and the qualifications of the President. You are expected to take over in his/her absence and so should have the skills necessary to preside over the General Assembly, Senate, and Club Presidents’ Round Table.
Secretary:
Angie Morarie
A good SGA Secretary is aware of all Association actions and is ready to supply needed information at all times. The work of the Association depends upon the efficiency with which this office is conducted. The SGA Secretary is the custodian of all records of the Association and great care should be taken with this responsibility. Records are kept from year to year so that there is a continuous record of all that has happened. To keep current records from various committees and organizations, the Secretary should see that the Committee Report Forms are available for distribution. These forms should then be submitted to you after each meeting. The Secretary should see to it that the Executive Council gets an "up-date" on the reports and minutes that are submitted. Special efforts should be made to develop skill in listening, interpreting issues, taking notes, and reporting accurately. The Secretary should know the proper form on which to make reports and the data which must be included. Finally, the Secretary must be able to work closely with the Communications Director and Director of Technology to facilitate effective public relations.
Treasurer:
Brian Stoffel
A definite part of any leadership training deals with the handling of money and the correct way of keeping the financial records of the Association. A very important SGA Officer is the Treasurer. Handling of money and keeping financial records is very important to the life and future of any organization. A sound financial structure is the real life of a successful program regardless of its origin. It is important to keep up to date on all receipts and disbursements that are made. The SGA Treasurer is the key officer in preparing the Annual Budget. Assistance will be provided by the SGA Budget Committee and the SGA Executive Council. Careful attention should be given to items requiring expenditure of Association funds during the year. The Treasurer should, on a monthly basis, reconcile the records of SGA with those of the college’s Business Office. Additionally, all clubs are to be provided with monthly statements reporting the status of their accounts.
